Eleven-year-old Charlie has been separated from her family and gone to live with her aunt and uncle in foster care. Charlie must learn to live with people she doesn't know and how to deal with a whole series of feelings. Along the way she meets Howard a next-door neighbor boy and a stray dog, she names wishbone.

Charlie has been making the same secret wish every day since fourth grade. She has a list of ways to make wishes. I had no idea there were so many ways to make a wish. Such as cutting off the pointed end of a piece of pie and wishing on it when she takes the last bite.

Along the way she discovers what she thought she wanted maybe isn't what she really wants.

This is a great story about a girl being placed with relatives in foster care and some of the feels that go along with that journey. My daughter and I really related to this story as she is my granddaughter that we adopted out of foster care. I highly recommend it. It's a great story.
