Book of the Month: January 2021

I re-joined in December when they had their Christmas special for $5. I love a deal.
I also love having a choice of books to choose from and I can skip if none look interesting.
I really love that most of them are new authors to me.
Usually something I wouldn't have even thought to pick up especially now since we are at home a lot.

With Book of the Month, you can pick one main book for $14.99, and then you can add up to two additional books for $9.99 each including shipping. Getting a book for $14.99 is a bargain, but getting two more for $9.99 each is an incredible deal and you don't pay to ship.
Awesome right!

So for January, I picked  The Dating Plan by Sara Desai as my main pick. Then Ink in the Blood by Kim Smejkal and Sourdough by Robin Sloan as my two add-ons. I haven't heard any of these authors so we will have to see how I like them. I should also add that the two add-on books weren't from the main January picks. They were previous Book of the Month books. So you can choose from books from previous months if you like.

I highly recommend Book of the Month if you love to read. If you are interested in joining you can click HERE to join and I will get a free book credit and my sincere gratitude.

P.S. I haven't started any of these books yet but I will be starting one after I finish the book I'm currently reading! Then I will be back to tell you what I thought of each one.

The Conjurer - Review

By: Luanne G Smith

Genre: Fantasy

Publication Date: January 12th, 2021 by 47North

Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Sidra a jinni is our main character. Did she murder her husband or not? Her brother-in-law Jamra thinks she did and wants to see her punished. As well as get his hands on an ancient relic capable of unleashing havoc on the world. Sidra will have to rely on a witch, a fairy, a mysterious dog, and a second rate sorcerer to see her through. Will they be able to do it?

The story kept me listening every day while delivering Instacart orders. It was entertaining and fun to listen to. This is the third book in the series and I loved it as much as the first two. I highly recommend it if you enjoy stories about witches, fairies, and jinni.

Kiss My Cupcake - Review

Got a problem with me? Kiss my cupcake!

Blaire is our female character. Blaire comes from a family of restaurant owners but wants to do her own thing. She loves making cupcakes and has decided to branch out on her own and start her own business Butter Cream and Booze. A specialty shop with delectable custom cupcakes and drinks to swoon over. I loved Blaire's attitude and her cute 50's pin-up girl dress style.

Ronan is our male character. Ronan has stepped in to save his granddad's bar the Knight Cap and bring it back to its previous glory in the hopes that his granddad will help him out with needed capital to start up a brewery of his own. The Knight Cap features specialty beers, pud food, and an ax-throwing room. Ronan is hard to look at with his plaid shirts and tattooed biceps.

Blaire and Ronan are at each other from opening day. It's a constant competition. But they can't fight the attraction... This was a super cute, fun read that I totally enjoyed reading. Who doesn't love 50's pin-up girls and sexy tattooed guys in plaid?

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - Review

Genres: Contemporary, Fantasy

Publication Date: October 6th, 2020, by Tor Books

A life no one will remember. A story you will never forget.

Addie is our main character. A young girl with seven freckles. She has big dreams and one day wants to leave her small village behind. She wants freedom and the chance to make her own decisions. Unfortunately, that's not what her family has in mind for her. They want her to marry. She has been told to not pray to the gods that answer after dark. But she ends up praying and one answers. She is desperate and ends up giving up her soul for a chance to live as she wants, free until she has lived her life to its full capacity. But the god has a trick up his sleeve.

I love Addie's character. She's young and full of life and wants to experience all life has to offer. She wants to make a difference. Do things. Be someone.

Luc is the god in our story. He is a drawing right out of Addie's own sketchbook come to life. He is handsome with his bold green eyes and black curls. He is alluring and enchanting.  But he is definitely a villain. He is a god you do not want to pray to. He will entrap you and he will be the only one with the upper hand.

I couldn't wait for Luc to show up. I couldn't wait to see what he would do next. What a surprise he had up his sleeve.

Overall, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a unique story on immortality, with a fantasy twist. It made me smile and it made me cry. It made me wonder what would happen next. Give Addie a chance you won't regret it. I hope this story makes it to the big screen. I can't wait to watch it!
